This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 was invoiced to Marv Tonkin Ford in Portland, Oregon, on February 25, 1966, having been specified in Candy Apple Red with cast alloy wheels and a Sport Deck rear seat. The car remained with four owners in Oregon before being purchased by the previous owner as an unfinished restoration project in Washington in 2005. Work was completed in 2006 and saw the car repainted in its factory color with white stripes, and its 289ci HiPo V8 and T-10 four-speed manual transmission were rebuilt. Other equipment includes black vinyl upholstery, front disc brakes, Koni shocks, dual exhaust, Flowmaster mufflers, PerTronix ignition, a steel-reinforced fiberglass hood, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an AM radio. Since the car was offered on BaT in July 2024, it changed hands and a Quick Fuel Technology carburetor was installed. This GT350 is now offered on dealer consignment in California as part of the Mohr Imports Car Week Collection: Postcards from Monterey with a copy of the original invoice, historical documentation and photos, service records, and a Washington title.

The car was delivered new in Candy Apple Red (J) and was repainted in 2006. White over-the-top and rocker stripes have been added, while the car is also equipped with a steel-reinforced fiberglass hood with variable-diameter hood springs and hood pins. It also has a driver-side mirror, functional side scoops, double-curved plexiglass quarter panels, and re-chromed bumpers and bumperettes.

Sand-cast 10-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with 225/60 front and 245/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that were installed before the 2024 auction. GT350s were factory-equipped with Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes as well as larger rear drums than standard Mustangs. Suspension components include Shelby lowered front A-arms, overrider traction bars, axle-limiting cables, and Koni shocks. The car is equipped with a quick-ratio steering box.

The cabin features low-back bucket seats and a Sport Deck rear seat trimmed in black vinyl. Lap belts are in place for four occupants, while an AM radio is situated in the dash. The glovebox door bears a Carroll Shelby signature.

The restored woodgrain steering wheel is not original to the car. The 140-mph speedometer is flanked by fuel-level, oil-pressure, amperage, and coolant-temperature gauges, and a Cobra-branded 9k-rpm tachometer is center-mounted atop the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 33k miles, with the current owner having driven the car ~200 miles.

The 289ci HiPo V8 was reportedly rebuilt by Gray’s Automotive Machine Shop in McMinnville, Oregon, during the refurbishment, and the current owner had a QFT carburetor installed. The engine is also equipped with a 7.5-quart aluminum oil pan, Cobra “open-letter” valve covers, a dual-point distributor with PerTronix ignition, and a cast-aluminum high-rise intake manifold. The fuel-sending unit was replaced in October 2023, and the alternator and voltage regulator were reportedly replaced before the 2024 auction.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through an aluminum-case T-10 four-speed manual transmission that the previous owner had rebuilt. The rear axle seals were replaced in July 2021. The dual exhaust system features ceramic-coated tri-Y headers, a crossover pipe, and Flowmaster mufflers. The rear end is equipped with 3.89:1 gearing.
